about

The protagonist returns to Birdwood and travels a great distance from the outside towards the center of the silent forest. Eventually he reaches a clearing in which the giant tree Ygilsea is located. As the sun sets, a pack of wolves emerges from the roots of the tree and he manages to run on their backs as they try to bite him. He reaches the trunk of Ygilsea which he climbs with daggers. In the center of the tree he builds a funeral pyre with wood he breaks from the branches. The protagonist sets fire to the pyre on which he is standing, which draws the demon from Ygilsea and destroys it. As the hero burns to death he raises his precious skull to gaze at the beautiful view.

lyrics

Where I had roamed I return with final
Purpose to Birdwood's treeline
I penetrate the silent forest
No animal voices stir this void
No leaves move
Even the wind dares not enter
This cursed sanctuary
A thousand steps in thick grass
Nothing stirs
Two thousand steps
Four thousand steps through detritus
Still nothing stirs
Eight thousand steps in cold dust
Something stirs
Huge pines around me
Thick black needles loom above
The hero enters the grove
The sun flees the sky
A swarm of wolves
Spills forth from the gnarled
Roots of giant Ygilsea
As old at the world no bark or leaves
Just filled with curse
The wood creaks tainted and mighty
The wolves rush thick at me snarling
Eyes black and senseless
Into the air I leap to run their backs
Teeth tear the air
Till Ygilsea I leap
The mighty trunk with daggers I
climb
Rabid death circles below
Scrambling onto the apex
Cursed birds claw at me
As I walk thin branches
To break the final kindling
The creaking of panic
Deep in the wood
In the centre I build my pyre
To share with Ygilsea
Flames rise round me
High above the treeline
The whole of the isle below me
As dawn licks the land
The demon is drawn from the Ygilsea
And consumed in the flames
My quest is completed
My redemption is the fire
My redemption is the fire
As I die I raise her skull
For empty eyes to gaze at the sky
